Braided-in Rugs

with Kathryn Swanson

Learn to make durable, machine-washable rugs from old fabrics. This live two-hour virtual class is all you need to learn the basics of starting a rug. From there, it is yours to enjoy!

After class, you will receive a link to the studio recording, so you will always have a reference to look back on.

Materials Needed: two contrasting fabrics, about three yards each (bedsheets work well), scissors, a needle, and thread.

From Kathryn’s website about the rugs:

  • Machine washable -And stain-resistant!
  • The perfect ADHD craft –Attention to detail not required 🙂
  • Environment friendly -an almost 100% upcycle!
  • Great gifts -Make a bathmat in a weekend!
  • Impossible to make ugly -Believe me, I’ve tried!
  • UFO-Proof -It is done when you decide 🙂
  • They require no equipment -Just fabric and an optional needle-and-thread
  • You can learn in 2 hours -Hundreds of people have!
  • They make use of the WORST fabrics -The polys, stained fabrics, the old bedsheets, the “yucky” stuff
  • There is no pattern, meaning they are self-paced
  • There is SO much room for innovation and experimentation – the form even goes 3-D!
