Plain and Fancy Stitches with Moira and Ellen MacAvoy
Scroll down to the bottom of the page for the registration form.

In this class you will learn how to make a wool felt pincushion using applique and a variety of embroidery stitches. When the project is worked as shown it is a basic wool applique class with basic and intermediate level embroidery. We will offer simpler alternatives for some of the stitches to make this class suitable for all levels. It would be helpful to have experience with basic hand sewing, but the only real requirement is that you be able to thread an embroidery needle, either with or without a needle threader.
Class Time/Location: March 26, 2023, 1 – 4 p.m., Peace Lutheran Church (Charlottesville, near Hollymead)
Skill Level: Beginner/Intermediate. The class samples are intermediate-level embroidery when worked as shown, but can be adapted for less experienced embroiderers as we offer substitutions for the more complicated stitches.
Cost: $35 members, $40 non-members. Plus Materials Fee $15 paid directly to instructors at class.
Class Size: Max 20 students
Deadline to Register: March 19, 2023, at 6 p.m.
Questions: Email programs@cvfg.org
Supplies: All supplies provided by instructors for a Materials Fee of $15.
About the Instructors:

Moira and Ellen MacAvoy have been sewing and embroidering since childhood.
In addition to garment making and other utility sewing, Moira has specialized in traditional hand embroidery techniques, both counted thread and free style. She has a Master Craftsman certification in Crewel Embroidery from the Embroiderers Guild of America.
Ellen has been quilting for more than 40 years, and her exploration of decorative arts has ranged from sewing custom clothing, to making theatrical costumes, to fashioning art dolls, to exploring mixed media, to adding dimensional ribbon work and surface embroidery to a variety of projects.
Together they enjoy designing and teaching hand applique and embroidery.
