About the artist: Gigi’s interest in fibers and materials is a result of decades of world travel to over 30 countries. From the souks of Aleppo and Damascus to the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul, markets in the South of France to the sheep pastures of New Zealand and Australia, Gigi has gained a deep respect for textile traditions and creativity. She learned to spin while living in London, spoiled by access to UK rare breeds and Scandinavian fleece. As a herbalist she has a soft spot for plant fibers and natural dyeing, and her recent work focuses on reclaimed and recycled materials. Gigi has taught spinning in her native Canada, the UK, and the US. She is published in Ply Magazine (“Prepping Unusual Fiber Combinations” – the Prep Issue) and was thrilled to be awarded 2 ribbons for spinning at MAFA 2109. Follow Gigi on Instagram @brooklyncrafter.
