Making Yarn on a Spindle with Cynthia Haney

Fall in love with the relaxing art of spinning. Make your first handspun yarn with a drop spindle designed for easy use. Experience various fiber preparations by spinning a sampler. Build skills for confident spinning by using the park-and-draft method. Learn what to do with your spindle-spun yarn.

The materials fee covers a spindle (yours to keep), and supplies for class.

Class Time/Location:  9 a.m. – Noon, at The Center at Belvedere (off Rio Rd East).

Skill Level: All levels – Cynthia, a spindle maker, loves sharing her spinning passion with beginners.

Cost: $40 Members/$45 Non-members OR for both classes $75/$85.

Class Size: Max 10 students

Materials Fee: $90 paid on arrival (cash or check), includes a spindle (yours to keep), and supplies for class.   Option: A student may bring their own spindle provided they contact Cynthia at ch@cynthiahaney.com in advance to verify suitability (if so the fiber fee will be $7). 

About Cynthia:  Cynthia Dianne Haney, a spindle maker, is passionate about teaching people how to spin. She designs spindles and turns them on the lathe to aid students with high quality performance, enabling students to make the yarn they want with a spindle.

Cynthia has been teaching beginner spinners, of all ages and abilities, since 2011, from individual lessons to specialized group classes at Fiberworld, Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair, and Maryland Sheep and Wool. A Virginia native, her woodshop and Cynthia Wood Spinner business is in Nelson County.
