March 18:  Tie-Dye Mini-Workshop with Susan Wright, 1 – 4pm
Tie dye a t-shirt using shibori and other techniques!
Max 12 Students – Look for an email in early March with sign-up info, or email programs@cvfg.org to register.
Materials fee: $8
No dyeing experience necessary! Bring one prewashed and dried cotton shirt to dye per person. Also bring an old towel.
Please​ wear old clothing​ or bring an apron.

April 15:  Easy Indigo Dyeing, 2:30pm
After the Annual Meeting, stay to do some easy indigo dyeing using pre-reduced crystals.

May 12:  Eco Printing Workshop with Sarah Tremaine, 9:30am – 3:30pm

September 22:  Eco Printing I: Silk Scarf Workshop with Sarah Tremaine, 9:30am – 3:30pm
Sunset Farm Studio, Crozet, VA
Join us for this fun make-and-take workshop and leave with two beautiful silk scarves printed with plant materials and natural dyes, as well as a set of samples. You will learn basic eco-printing techniques using various leaves and other natural materials and make:
1. Two unique test pieces to share with the class, each participant will go home with 20 samples using different processes ;
2. Two eco-printed silk scarves (silk habotai and raw silk)
● Class fee of $75 plus a materials fee of $20 (total $95) for two prepared test pieces plus two prepared scarf blanks (with the option of students purchasing additional prepared scarf blanks at the workshop)
● Participants should arrive a half hour early and bring lunch. Snacks and beverages will be provided
● There will be a list of supplies for students to bring that will be provided when you register

September 23:  Eco Printing II: Indigo and Eco Printing Workshop with Sarah Tremaine, 9am – 5pm
Sunset Farm Studio, Crozet, VA
Indigo and Eco Print will build on what you learned in Eco Print I. Indigo is a substainative dye, not requiring mordants to get permanent coloring. But, we have seen that our best eco prints come on mordanted fabrics. How then do we also eco print indigo fabrics? In this eight-hour workshop you will learn:
1. How to set up your own organic indigo vat (using the methods of Michelle Garcia)
2. Indigo dyeing on cellulose fabric
3. Test different methods of eco printing on indigo
4. Make a final beautiful woven shawl project and eco print you own T-shirt
● Class fee of $95 plus a materials fee of $15 (total $110) for one prepared woven cotton shawl blank.
● Students should save an old (stained?) cotton or cellulose fiber t-shirt of tank top (Instructions on home scouring will be provided)
● Participants should arrive 15 minutes early and bring lunch. Snacks and beverages will be provided
● There will be a list of supplies for students to bring that will be provided when you register
● Max 10 students. Email Melanie at programs@cvfg.org to register and mail your class registration fee by July 22
NOTE: You must take Eco Print 1 in order to sign up for Eco Print II. If you took Eco Print I in the spring session, you are good to go for Eco Print II.

October 6 & 7:  Fall Fiber Festival at Montpelier

Bring small samples of weaving, knitting/crochet, spinning, felt, to make and swap notecards. Just in time for the holidays! Check back for more details on what to bring.
November 18:  Fiber Arts Notecard Swap, 1:30 – 3:30pm
Peace Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall
We’ll get together and make our small swatches and samples into beautiful notecards.
Use your imagination: your weaving, knitting, crochet, spinning, tie dye and felting can all be used. The front of the card will be 4.25” x 6” and will need to fit along with your fiber art into its matching envelope 4.75 x 6.5”. Please bring your swatches prepared, cut to size (as appropriate), and finished with fray check as needed. Consider interesting shapes and colors. If you want to bring markers, watercolor pencils, feel free. Also, if you have embellishments like metallic threads, confetti, sequins, feathers, etc. bring what you have and we’ll have a table that everyone can share from.
If anyone is interested, we can do an exchange at the end and trade cards to bring more variety to your set.
There will be a small materials fee of $2 per person that will be collected at the workshop. This will provide 8 blank cards and envelopes per participant and glue.

December 2:  Holiday Party and Craft-in & Stash Swap, 1 – 4pm

Bring your wheel, loom, knitting, or any other portable fiber craft and join us for our annual all guild holiday party!  Feel free to bring a snack to share (think finger foods)
Stash/Swap : If you are interested in bringing any fiber, yarns, embellishments, equipment, books, tools etc. to give away for free, swap or sell at yard sale prices, this is your chance. See the November newsletter for details.
